FreeBee lists free things to do and get. We collect as little as we can, and we don’t sell your information.
What we collect
- Your account: your email, and either a password (stored only as a one-way scrambled hash, never the password itself) or, if you use “Continue with Google,” your Google account ID, email and name. Google tells us only those; we never see your Google password.
- The Thursday email, if you choose it: your email, which page you joined from and any interests or area you pick. Our email provider (Beehiiv) stores it and first sends a confirmation link; you only get the weekly email after you tap it. Account emails (confirming your address, resetting your password) are sent through Resend.
- A sign-in cookie (fb_session) that keeps you signed in on this browser for up to 180 days. Signing out, changing your password or deleting your account ends it.
- Listings you share: what you type into the “Post a find” form, including any links. Approved listings are shown publicly.
- Tips you post on a listing. They’re checked before they appear, then shown publicly and anonymously: we don’t attach your name or email to them.
- Small cookies that remember which listings you’ve marked “I went,” “Still on,” “Save,” “I’m going” or “Not free” (lff_fb), which tips you’ve rated (lff_tv), and how many tips and help messages you’ve sent today (lff_tips, lff_help). They hold no personal details.
- A scrambled code made from your internet address (a one-way hash; the address itself isn’t kept), so each person’s vote counts once and nobody can flood the site with fake reports, signups or messages.
- A membership cookie (fb_member) that remembers you’ve joined, so the listings open without signing in again on this browser, and a two-minute one (fb_welcome) that shows the “You’re in” note.
- Your saved list, kept in a cookie (fb_saved) on your own device so the Saved page can show it. We only keep an anonymous count of how many people saved each listing.
- Messages you send us through the help page: your email, what you wrote and the listing it was about, so we can reply. We delete them along with the rest of your data if you ask.
- “Tailor it” choices (area and interests) in a cookie (fb_prefs) on your device, so the feed can start with what you picked.
- Visit statistics through Google Analytics: pages viewed, how you got here (for example a link on Nextdoor), device and browser type, and an approximate location. Google sets its own cookies (named _ga) for this. We turned off Google’s advertising features, so it isn’t used to show you ads. You can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on or any tracker blocker.
- Basic server logs kept by our hosting provider (such as IP address and pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or rent your information. Our email provider only uses it to deliver our emails.
- We don’t use advertising trackers. Analytics is only used to see which pages help people.
- We don’t ask for payment details. If a listing ever asks you to pay to get something “free,” report it.
Your choices
- Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- You can ask us to delete your email or anything you submitted on the help page. We confirm by email once it’s done.
Photos and fonts
Some listing photos load from Wikimedia Commons, so your browser contacts Wikimedia to show them. Each photo is credited on the picture, with a link to its license. The site’s fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser also contacts Google to show them.
Listings come from other places
Many listings link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices. Always check the details on the organizer’s own page before you go.
